I was 8 years old when I painted this picture. My father worked as a painting salesman for various painters in Villa Hermosa in Medellin, where I was born and grew up. He would sometimes take me with him and we visited some artist studios.
One day, while I was looking for something in the house, I came across a small, old, open box of oil paints (with Chinese letters, no idea what it was). Without hesitating, I took a piece of cardboard and started making some strokes on it. I thought about "good and evil." I started with two dots at the bottom left and right to represent them: one black and one white, and I began to try to hide and expose them, forming light and dark shapes with the colours I had at that moment
From that moment on, my passion for painting was awakened and I began to paint more frequently. At the age of 17, I began to attend courses in painting techniques at the University of Antioquia, where I learned colour theory and how to paint with watercolours, acrylics and oils. I never had the courage to study painting at the university. I decided I would rather take short painting courses and keep it as a hobby
At the end of the course at the University of Antioquia (2006), we were able to present two artwork that could participate in an exhibition at the university's museum. Before that, I drew my friends photos they had or painted some nice pictures I found in magazines.
For this project, I decided to buy what would be my first camera (not an easy ta$k), then take my own shoot and paint it. I pictured something in my head, now I have to make it real. My Grandfather, a little sceptical accepted (he didn't like photos). My young cousin, no big deal. We made the picture, I painted it and it was exhibited in the museum. I called the artwork "life"
From that moment on, I enjoyed having "fast-memories" in my camera, and I photographed the world more frequently. Since then, I was often with a camera. Having as a dream buying a reflex camera at some point in my life
My years in Berlin and my travels through Latin America and Europe have filled my camera and me with a lot of inspiration
About me
Colombian working and living in Berlin since 2015. In this location I completed my business studies with a focus on engineering.
Restless and curious, I bought my first camera at the age of 17. This was the beginning of my passion for photography. Currently I am interested in photographing the speed of certain objects by long exposure, as well as geometric figures that I encounter in my daily life.
